Bowen Basin Population Report, 2010

This report provides full-time equivalent (FTE) population estimates for local government areas, statistical local areas and selected localities within the Bowen Basin. The FTE population is an estimate of the area’s resident population, together with a count of non-resident (fly-in/fly-out or drive-in/drive-out) workers living in the area while rostered-on.

In resource areas with large non-resident worker populations, the FTE population measure provides a more typical estimate of demand for services than the resident population by itself. Non-resident workforce numbers are derived from a census of commercial accommodation providers, last conducted by OESR in June 2010. Some 14,613 non-resident workers were present in the Bowen Basin in 2010, one non-resident for every six usual residents.

In addition to providing the latest FTE population, each edition of the Bowen Basin Report provides time series data for preceding years to 2006. The resident population component for preceding years is adjusted in the current edition to reflect preliminary revised resident population estimates issued by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
