Modelling and Forecasting

OESR has extensive expertise in a range of economic and demographic modelling. Further details of different types of modelling conducted by OESR are provided below.

Economic modelling

OESR has extensive expertise in economic modelling, particularly in the field of Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling.

OESR’s expertise in the development, application and analysis of CGE modelling supports microeconomic policy analysis and decision making within the Queensland Government.  Using these models promotes a better understanding of Queensland’s economic structure and the drivers of economic growth at the state level, and quantifies the effects of state and Commonwealth policies and other impacts on the Queensland economy.

Recent work undertaken by OESR using this expertise includes modelling to determine the economic impacts of climate change and emissions trading and the impact of the global financial crisis on employment in Queensland regions and industries.

Population, households and dwellings projections

Official population projections for Queensland and regions are produced twice every five years. Queensland Government publishes projections for Queensland and Statistical Divisions, and these are generated using a multi-regional cohort-component model. To further assist planning of residential development, infrastructure and services, the OESR Demography Team undertakes small-area forecasting for local government areas and statistical local areas.
