Who We Are

The Office of Economic and Statistical Research (OESR), a portfolio office of Queensland Treasury, is the principal economic, demographic and social research agency for the Queensland Government. OESR provides expert services to support national, whole-of-Government and agency policies, programs, and service delivery decisions.

The key areas of work conducted by OESR include:

OESR is committed to knowledge sharing and to enabling access to information products and services. Information is provided by OESR to Government, business, the education sector and the community. Through partnering with these sectors, and contributing to specialist interest networks, OESR achieves its vision supporting better decision making to advance Queensland.

OESR incorporates the Office of the Government Statistician, and is responsible for representing the Queensland Government on statistical matters. The Office of the Government Statistician co-ordinates the collection of official statistics, as determined by legislation. To learn more about this role, the legislation and history, refer to Surveys, Legislative Framework and Our History.

OESR maintains a strong customer focus and provides high levels of regional service delivery through offices located in Brisbane, Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns. For more specific information about the services OESR provides, see the Our Services section of this website.

OESR complies with AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems for survey and research services, including the design, development and provision of processes to collect, collate, interpret, analyse and disseminate high quality primary and secondary statistical information.
