Standard International Trade Classification

The Standard International Trade Classification (SITC), Revision 3, is the standard classification for the reporting of international trade statistics. SITC revision 4 has been recently released and will be implemented in July of this year.

SITC provides detailed categories for the classification of commodities and is arranged in a hierarchy of five levels.

It has been developed by the United Nations and is compatible with other international classifications of industries and products.

A detailed structure and explanatory notes for this classification can be viewed through the United Nations website.
