Queensland Young Adults Longitudinal Survey
Several thousand young adults from across Queensland are currently participating in the Queensland Young Adults Longitudinal Survey. This study will help to guide future policy development and service delivery on employment, education and lifestyle issues related to young adults in the Smart State.
What is a longitudinal survey?
Longitudinal surveys collect data from the same individuals at different times over an extended period. The Queensland Young Adults Longitudinal Survey was first conducted in 2005 and the second survey was completed in 2007. This particular study is monitoring the progress of a group of Queensland young adults aged between 15 and 25 through various stages of their education and employment.
Why conduct this survey?
Given changes in society and expectations on young people today, it is essential to develop an understanding of the choice of pathways young people make as they progress from secondary education through to employment or further education. Pressures such as HECS (Higher Education Contribution Scheme) fees, the diversity of education, training and employment opportunities available, as well as pressures from changing family structures, influence the decisions made by young Queenslanders.
This study will provide researchers and policy makers with valuable information about the transition from youth to adult life for young Queenslanders, the pathways between education, training and employment, as well as a variety of other information that may be significant in the choices they make.
A wide range of questions are being asked which reflect the interests of the various Queensland Government agencies who have contributed to the development of the study. Questions relate to education, training, employment, health, social, economic, sport and leisure.
