Message from the Treasurer

Andrew Fraser

The State of Queensland turns 150 years in 2009. Government agencies and communities around the State are celebrating this milestone with a range of Q150 activities.

Since 1859, statistics have recorded our history in detail, and provide a wealth of historical information about the great state we live in today.

The Q150 theme is our people, our places, our stories. Many communities are taking this opportunity to review historical information about Queensland – to learn more about their state and themselves.

I am pleased to present to you the Q150 Statistical Collection. This collection includes digital books, historical documents, artefacts and statistical tables. The collection will help Queenslanders discover more about our state's history and provides the community with valuable information to help them to write and share their stories.

This collection contains stories too – the Q150 statistical stories. They reveal some of the unique history about the collection of statistics and our state's statistical office from the time of Queensland's separation from New South Wales to the present day.

I encourage Queenslanders to visit the Q150 website for information on the events and other Government initiatives that have been arranged to salute Queensland's 150 years.

Andrew Fraser
Treasurer and Minister for Employment and Economic Development
